Each time you start a game it will choose a map by random, therefore this guide will show a scene by scene with comments of a game I have played.
Step 1> http://img33.imageshack.us/i/95411139.png/
The first thing I did was to connect the inital two depots in the shortest route possible, then I attached the 'T' or '3-way' to each depot.
Then looking at the landscape I see the water feature being at the left of screen. I placed a vertical section of track as close to its left side as possible, (If the water feature had been in a corner then placing an angled section of track would have been choosen).
Having already played this game I know in advance other depots will pop up around the edge of the screen.
I next place a piece above the bldg(windmill) and then proceed to place pieces starting from the lumbermill going left and from the vertical piece next to the water feature going right till they meet up.
Step 2> http://img245.imageshack.us/i/72738811.png/
Removing as few obstacles as possible with the 'dozer, I complete the loop.
This allows us to have more than one train on the screen and prepares us for the arrival of other depots.
Take a close look at the image, you will see that the switches on the right are set for the trains to chug back and forth. The ones to the left of these are not set correctly. It is in your best interest to set the switches up so all it takes is one switch flip to send trains in and out of depots, (this will be better understood later on).
For now its best to know the switch nearest the depot is known as the primary and the next set as secondary.
Step3> http://img4.imageshack.us/i/99442713.png/
Now our coal depot has arrived, we could just attach straight out from the depot however this does not help us later in the game when it gets faster and more busy.
Step4> http://img32.imageshack.us/i/99948210.png/
As you can see it is best to build a '3-way' right at the base of the depot and then alter the terrain and main track to fit it.
Step5> http://img401.imageshack.us/i/44129920.png/
After a few more trains our next depot arrives and being set at the angle and position means we have to alter the way we deal with this depot.
You will notice that all the switches are set to recieve off the main loop and not for trains to tracel around it, this is so you can quickly allow the change of direction of trains leaving depots and also last minute entrance without having to flip more switches.
The top depot has a vertical and an angled piece of track coming off it in order to allow access in either direction onto the loop. This means however that any train exiting there could crash into one leaving the same depot, beware! If the lights flash-flip the switch in order to stop any train entering the depot.
NOTE> Trains leaving depots go first.
Step6> http://img32.imageshack.us/i/67389262.png/
Another depot arrives, again make a '3-way' and add the main loop to it.
Step7> http://img4.imageshack.us/i/32004386.png/
Here we have all 6 depots.
The big thing on this pic is the two different trains, Remember! The newer ones will catch the old ones and crash.
So either delay the newer trains, or send them in the opposite direction if possible so they don't catch up to the old ones.
Step8> http://img30.imageshack.us/i/27706946.png/
Don't be fooled by the pic, one of these trains is going backwards.
There is more than one way to move a train, if it gets to busy just flip the switches and stop the trains from getting to the next piece of track, however! they will go in the opposite direction and may hit a train coming out of a depot.
Step9> Have fun!! Its a game after all.
Note: You can send a train into a wrong depot to give yourselve time and room on your tracks if you need to.
